ANDY'S GAS CAREER OFF TO A FLYER
Andy Williams says that scoring his first goal in Rovers colours was a special moment for him.
The former Hereford United striker came off the bench yesterday afternoon to score a second half equaliser against Port Vale.
The draw ensured the Pirates extended their unbeaten league run to 11 matches, and means Gasheads haven't tasted defeat in a competitive fixture for over four months.
"From a personal point of view it was nice to get on the scoresheet, although it would have been nicer if it was the winner or if we had gone on to win the match," Andy told bristolrovers.co.uk.
"I always hoped to get a chance, and I was pleased to come on when we needed a goal. It was a bit of a poacher's goal, but it was just great to be able to poke the ball home at the back post.
"I don't remember too much about what happened after, but celebrating in front of the Rovers fans was brilliant because they were going mental. It was good to hear them all cheering, and it was great scoring at that end of the pitch.
"Over the whole game I thought we were the better team. We were unlucky on the penalty, and I thought we shaded things overall. That said it's good to get our first point on the board, and I think the performance and the result will give us confidence going forward.
"Our fans were definitely the better of the two sets of supporters, they were noisy for the whole game and it was nice to hear them singing Goodnight Irene all afternoon.
"I'm glad I'm off the mark now, I didn't score in pre-season, but it's the league where it counts and I'm happy to have scored my first goal.
"Obviously I'd like to start every game, but the gaffer is sticking with Richard and Rickie at the moment and that's fair enough because they've been in top form. I can't knock that decision, and at the moment I just need to keep doing what I can when I get an opportunity in matches.
"It's great being involved, and as the games go by my aim is to be involved more and more."
