Richard Walker says the positives from last night's game against West Ham United will help Rovers against Nottingham Forest this weekend.

The Pirates were beaten 2-1 by the Premier League side, but fought back from two goals down to almost force the tie into extra time.

"It was a good experience for us," Richard told bristolrovers.co.uk, "They have got some great players in their team, and in the first half they moved the ball around well and kept us out of it.

"But in the second half we gave it a right go and we were unfortunate not to take it into extra time. They were quick and strong at the back, and it was difficult playing against them, but I think overall we didn't do too badly."

Andy Williams came off the bench to score Rovers' only goal, and Richard knows competition for places in attack is intense.

"There's good competition for places, and I'm sure after his goal he'll be looking to start on Saturday," he said, "We've all got different qualities though, Andy's got his pace whereas Ricky and I like to hold the ball up more and bring people into the game.

"I haven't scored yet this season, although I've had four assists. I'd like to have scored one by now, but I'm sure it will come and then once the first one is out of the way many more will hopefully follow."

Rovers face Forest on Saturday before travelling away to Luton Town and then welcoming Leeds United to the Memorial Stadium.

"There are some good games coming up for us," he said, "We'll take a lot of positives from last night and go into the Forest match looking for three points.

"They have a very good team, but we can beat anybody in this division on our day and I quite fancy us. They haven't started the season too well, so maybe it's a good time to play them.

"We know we could have more points on the board by now, but if we win on Saturday I think we'll be very pleased with our start to the season, and we'll be right up there amongst it."

Saturday could see Junior Agogo back at the Memorial Stadium for the first time since his move to the City Ground, and Richard would look forward to playing against his old striking partner.

"We had some good times here," he said, "We formed a good partnership and scored some good goals between us.

"We used to have bets on all the time as to who'd score the most goals, maybe we should do it for Saturday as well! It will be good to see him again and I wish him all the best, although not for this weekend!"
