Aaron Lescott is hoping to retain his place in the Rovers first 11 for Saturday's home game against AFC Bournemouth.

The right-back was called back into the side for last weekend's 3-2 loss at Gillingham, standing in for the ill Ryan Green.

Aaron had been sidelined for several weeks following a knee injury he sustained in training, but he's declared himself fit and available should he be required to feature against the Cherries.

"The knee was fine to be honest, no reaction at all," Aaron told bristolrovers.co.uk, "If I had any doubts going into the game I would have told the coaching staff that I wasn't ready.

"But I think the fortunate thing about my injury was that three or four weeks ago I was able to do straight line running on it. A lot of players when they're injured aren't able to do that, so although I haven't been playing games of late my fitness levels have remained pretty decent.

"Before I got injured I was pretty happy with my form, and having to miss games isn't good for any player. Hopefully though I did enough on Saturday for Paul and Lennie to think I did enough to stay in the team. If I didn't, then I need to work hard to get back to how I was playing before."

The defeat at the Priestfield Stadium sees Rovers remain stuck in the lower reaches of League One, and Aaron admits the players were very down after the final whistle.

"Obviously in the dressing room there were a lot of down heads, because from a 2-1 advantage you should never lose the game like that," he said, "At worst you might have to take a draw, but again we have to look at the mistakes we made as a team and as individuals and try to make sure it doesn't happen again.

"Every goal you concede has a mistake in somewhere, and Trolls and Lennie sit us down and tell us where they think we could have done better after games like that."

Aaron has played in midfield, at left-back as well as the more familiar right-back role since joining Rovers, although it's the latter position he now sees as his own.

"I prefer to play at right-back, and realistically now it's Ryan Green and myself fighting for the right-back position and Joe Jacobson and Chris Carruthers fighting for left-back," he said.

"I can play left-back, but when I've done that before it was a bit different because we only had three full-backs at the club rather than four. So unless a lot of people get injured I see my position in the side as right-back now and can't really see myself playing left-back again."

While Aaron has been out injured over the last month, his brother Julian has been scoring in the Premier League as well as representing England.

"I speak to my brother every day, and it's been a bit of a manic month for the family," he said, "I get injured in a Tuesday training session the day before my brother is called into the England squad. He then goes on to make two appearances for his country in the space of four days.

"I was very disappointed to be injured, but from a family point of view, my brother has been able to do what every player dreams of doing, and that's to represent his country.

"He's played at a higher level than me, and he's achieved what most players want to. Hopefully I can continue to learn from him, and what he's experienced can benefit me and my game."
