Bristol Rovers Reserves led three times but had to make do with a point from an entertaining 3-3 draw with Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

Andy Williams, Richard Walker and Matt Groves all scored for Rovers, but on each occasion the strikes were cancelled out, by Enoch Showunmi, Lee Trundle and Kevin Betsy.

Early pressure from Rovers paid off on ten minutes when Walker's reverse pass found Williams clean in the box, who coolly slotted in the opener.

Lee Trundle and Showunmi both fired efforts straight at Mike Green as City attempted to find an instant reply.

Showunmi wasted another chance on the half-hour, heading wide from close range after Jennison Myrie-Williams' inch-perfect had picked out his team-mate in the middle.

But the determined Nigerian striker was rewarded for persistence when he nodded the hosts level on 31 minutes from Trundle's looping cross.

Rovers regained control of the match after the equaliser however, with Matt Groves flashing a long range effort just wide.

And on the stroke of half-time Walker restored Rovers' advantage with a tap-in from ten yards after a fumble by City keeper Stephen Henderson.

City came out flying for the second half and after Scott Murray had curled a shot against the post, Showunmi earned a spot-kick after being tripped in the box by Craig Hinton.

Lee Trundle stepped up and stroked home the resultant spot-kick, despite Green's attempts to save diving the right way.

But the Pirates were in front again just two minutes later, with Groves dashing past his marker on the left and striking the ball inside the far post.

Green made a fine stop with time ticking away to keep out Frankie Artus's top-corner bound header from a Murray corner.

But with just three minutes left Betsy stooped to head in Trundle's shot for a last-gasp leveller.
