Paul Trollope was pleased to see Rovers book their place in FA Cup round two tonight after an absorbing victory over Leyton Orient.

The Pirates triumphed 6-5 after penalties following a 3-3 draw with Martin Ling's side, and go through to play Rushden & Diamonds this Saturday afternoon.

Rovers led 1-0 early on, but twice had to come from behind in an eventful and topsy-turvy cup tie.

"We were pleased to get the early lead, because we spoke before the game about how important that would be," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk, "We wanted to make it a cup tie, and with a few players starting who either hadn't played for a while or hadn't played regularly we wanted to impose ourselves from the off.

"The early goal helped us do that, but then as the game progressed we weren't pleased with some of our concentration defensively. At times nobody was prepared to take responsibility, and we needed a few lifelines from the referee to get back into it.

"I'm proud of the players' attitude and application, and we're delighted to be in the next round. Overall we were pleased with the performance, although just at a few times we thought they got through a little too easily.

"When they went down to nine men it was important that we passed the ball, and after they went 3-2 up we stopped doing that for a little bit and went direct too early. We worked it out in the end, and we got the goal we needed.

"It's not easy against teams with nine or ten men, because they sit there and absorb pressure and play narrow and you've got to break them down. We kept plugging away, and after an unbelievable number of corners and numerous chances we were level again.

"We made hard work of it with penalties, but we got there in the end and that was the main thing.

"There were a lot of players in the side that were given a chance tonight, and I think they all took their chance well. There were some good individual performances, and it was pleasing to see the players that have shown great application and professionalism while they've been out of the side come in and take the club through."
