THE ONLY DECISION - TROLLS
Paul Trollope said Uriah Rennie had no choice but to call this afternoon's League One game between Rovers and Swansea City off.
The match official made his decision at around 12:45pm this afternoon, after a brief inspection of a waterlogged Memorial Stadium playing surface.
Paul was on hand throughout the late morning and lunchtime period, and he says the pitch in no state to host football.
"The pitch was covered from yesterday morning, and the weather yesterday and overnight was quite favourable really," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk, "The reports initially were that the rain was going to finish at lunchtime, and when we first took the covers back it looked ok.
"But as we uncovered more we saw more puddles lying on the pitch. Some were coming up from underneath because of the spring at the top end of the ground, others were forming from the heavy rain.
"The rain has come in and remained and in the end it was the only decision to be made. The pitch was in a worse state than Wednesday night, and sometimes you just have to accept the elements are against you.
"That was the case on Wednesday, and it's been the case against today. We're disappointed, the fans will be disappointed, and I'm sure Swansea are disappointed too. But unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about it.
"The pitch is as it is, and this is our last season playing on it. Hopefully by not playing on it this week it will help us in the longer term come February and March, but for the here and now it's disappointing for us all."
