WE WERE WORTHY WINNERS - LAMBERT
Rickie Lambert said Rovers were worthy winners against Port Vale yesterday afternoon.
The Pirates had to come back from 2-1 down against the Valiants, and did so with an 81st minute Chris Lines strike and then Rickie's late spot-kick.
The win keeps Rovers' unbeaten run going, and takes the team into Tuesday's meeting with Cheltenham Town in good form.
"I couldn't believe that we were 2-1 down, considering how much better than them we were," Rickie told bristolrovers.co.uk, "To be 2-1 down was shocking, and it was very frustrating out there to have been on top by so much and to be losing.
"Then out of the blue Chris Lines scored the type of goal we don't normally get, and everyone in the stadium was relieved.
"When the penalty was awarded not long after that I knew I'd be taking it, and I made up my mind straight away where it was going. If the goalkeeper dives the right way and saves it then fair enough, I just tried to strike it as well as I could and thankfully it went in."
Rovers could have been out of sight at half-time, but bad luck thwarted Andy Williams in particular.
"Andy was unlucky with a couple of his chances, but he makes some great runs and he's easy for me to find," he said, "I always know where he's going to be, and his timing is brilliant.
"I think one of his chances he hit the post, and another went just wide, and that was unlucky because on another day he'd stick them away.
"But we should have been a goal or two ahead at half-time, so when they were winning in the second half we were thinking have the missed chances cost us again.
"Credit to the lads though because they kept going and Linesy was there to put one in. He's been unlucky of late with goals taken away from him, but I said to him as we were celebrating that this one was definitely his.
"It was important we won the game to keep our run going, and another good result on Tuesday would lift us up a few more places. If the run continues then who knows where we could end up, but for the moment we're just focusing on winning the next game in front of us."
