DEFEAT ENDS BAD WEEK FOR TROLLS
Paul Trollope admitted this afternoon's 1-0 loss at Cheltenham Town capped off a "bad week" for Bristol Rovers.
The first team coach watched his players dominate in long spells at Whaddon Road, only to be punished for a catalogue of missed chances by a Steve Brooker winner ten minutes from time.
Paul says the result now leaves the club's already slim play-off chances as not much more than a "long shot", with this team now 11 points off the top six.
"We were pleased with the performance level today and some of our play in patches, but we conceded a pretty soft goal and we missed a number of chances," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk.
"Their goalkeeper had a good game to be fair, he made some decent saves, but after the loss against West Brom and the second half against Northampton we wanted a response today.
"The players gave that in terms of their performance, but we didn't get a result and we feel a bit mugged because we deserved something from the game.
"We had a lot of possession and used and passed the ball pretty well and for long spells we put them under pressure. But we still lacked in certain areas which is nothing new and something we've been saying for a while.
"We've lacked goals, especially over the last six or seven games, and to be fair Craig Disley has masked that problem by popping up with a few of late. We're not kidding ourselves, it is something we've tried to rectify by bringing people in, but it's not as easy as it sounds and we are still looking.
"In terms of the play-offs with the results today, it's a long shot now. But we've got a lot of games to go and we'll keep believing.
"Our record in this division is won 11 lost 11 goal difference zero, which shows we're average and possiblly heading for mid-table which, because of our shortcomings, is arguably where we belong."
