Rovers snatched a late winner to defeat Forest Green Rovers in Ponight's Pontin's Holidays Combination match at the Memorial Stadium.

Having taken an early lead, through Andy Williams, they enjoyed the lions' share of possession, but conceded an equaliser just six minutes from time before Charlie Clough netted a winner from close range in time added on.

Richard Walker, Chris Carruthers and Williams provided the experience in Rovers' starting line-up against a Forest Green side who included striker Stuart Fleetwood in their starting 11.

It was the younger members of the squad who caught the eye, though, in a workmanlike performance.

In particular, central defender James Tyrell put in an impressive performance alongside Alex Kite and the pair snuffed out any threat posed by Fleetwood and his strike partner Danny Carey Bertrun.

Parrinello had a solid game at right back, while there were all action displays from midfielders James Fraser and Clough.

In addition schoolboy Reeko Best, a recent addition to the youth ranks at under 16 level, did enough to suggest that he is one to watch for the future and there were some nice touches from left sided midfielder Ben Swallow.

There was an early chance for Rovers but goalkeeper Ryan Robinson touched a shot from Williams round the post and from the resulting corner Charlie Clough headed wide of the target.

Having dominated the opening stages, Rovers took a 12th minute lead through Williams, who intercepted a poor back pass by Dan Sandell and hit a low shot past Robinson from the edge of the area.

Central defender James Tyrell almost added a second, but his close range header was well saved by Robinson.

In a rare Forest Green attack Carey Bertrun hit a long range effort over the bar, but they struggled to make an impression against a well organised Rovers back line.

Swallow hit a rasping drive over the bar, but Rovers were unable to add a second goal before the break.

Best saw his shot comfortably saved by Robinson shortly after the break and the keeper had to be alert again to keep out Clough's angled drive.

Walker set up a chance for Williams on 65 minutes, but the striker's volley was turned round the post by Robinson, while at the other end, Mike Green made his first save of the evening when he comfortably dealt with Carey Bertrun's drive from the edge of the box.

There was an unexpected equaliser for the visitors with six minutes remaining when Isaac Shaze raced on to a long clearance and lobbed the ball over Green as he rushed off his line to clear Rovers, though, hit back to snatch a last minute winner when Williams flicked on Parrinello's free kick and Clough was on hand to force the ball home from close range.
