TROLLS PLEASED WITH A POINT
Paul Trollope was reasonably pleased to see his team come away from the City Ground with a point yesterday.
The first team coach watched Steve Elliott fire home a second half header against Nottingham Forest, to secure a share of the points for Rovers.
Forest had been leading since the latter stages of the opening half, but Paul said his players were more than worthy of the draw.
"I was very proud of the players," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk, "They showed a fantastic work ethic and a good spirit, especially after going a goal down. There was a good mentality and belief about us, and I think come the end of the season that will be a good point for us.
"After we equalised they had a spell that we had to weather, but then after that we turned the game around again, passed the ball very well, and looked dangerous.
"We'd have settled for a point before the game because it's a tough place to go. They are a very good side, and a draw there is a decent return.
"Once again we showed what we can do on a good surface, and it was pleasing from our point of view to see us producing the kind of football I know we're capable of."
Although Rovers are by no means assured of League One safety yet, Paul is confident the team will pick up enough points over the remaining fixtures.
"We've got six games to go, and we believe we can win a good percentage of those," he said, "If we produce the performance level we did against Forest then we should be looking to finish in a respectable mid-table position, which is what we feel we should be looking at.
"But until we have the points in the bag to make us mathematically safe we won't be taking anything for granted, and we'll be looking to get the results we need sooner rather than later to ensure we end the season on a positive note."
Next up is AFC Bournemouth on the south coast, a fixture Paul is already planning for.
"Without the ten points taken off them they wouldn't be far off ourselves, and lately they've been showing some very good form," he said, "They've had a fantastic run of results, and we'll go there fully prepared and showing them a lot of respect.
"They've got good players who can score goals, but I've said to the players that if they do the right things and play at the level they did against Forest then they should be confident they can win the game."
