Bristol Rovers are asking supporters considering wearing fancy dress costumes to the final game of the season on Saturday to choose their outfits or costumes sensibly and maturely.

The club has been advised by the police that a small group of fans are planning on attending the Brisbane Road clash against Leyton Orient dressed in attire associated with acts of terrorism.

Any individuals contemplating travelling to London and attending the weekend game in such attire are being warned that they will not be welcome at the ground, and police on the day will be ready to deal with them as is deemed appropriate.

"It is not very wise to consider attending public events or travel by public transport in a fancy dress outfit that is likely to cause concern and offence, and in addition, could have very serious consequences," the club's safety officer Dave Harper told bristolrovers.co.uk.

"The police have made us aware of the matter, and we are therefore communicating this to our supporters to allow anyone thinking of dressing up inappropriately to reconsider.

"We know that there is an end of season tradition to dress up for the last game, but there is a common sense line that 99.9 per cent of people know not to cross.

"Dressing up with the intention of appearing to look like some kind of terrorist is stepping over the line, and we don't want Bristol Rovers or football as a whole associated with anyone who thinks costumes such as the ones in question are in any way acceptable."

Supporters who do not heed this warning should prepare themselves for an overnight stay in a London police cell.
