Work is being carried out to improve the playing surface at the Memorial Stadium in time for next season.

Sports pitch specialists Kestrel will be at the Mem for two days, while they install three lateral drains.

The drains will run under the area of the pitch most effected by the spring, and will connect up to the other drains that are already in place.

Grounds man Pete Prior said: "These new drains will help to keep the water off the surface of the pitch and stop any games being cancelled this season.
"We are hoping they will alleviate the problems that we experienced last year."

Work to sand and seed the pitch had already been carried out in preparation for preseason, but now additional maintenance is being undertaken to try and prevent the problems experienced during the last campaign.

Bad weather conditions meant that a number of games had to be called off last season, including the FA Cup replay against Fulham.
