There were rumours circulating, down at Torquay yesterday, that Plymouth Argyle had made an increased offer to take central defender Danny Coles to Home Park.

However First Team Coach Paul Trollope, speaking after the game at Plainmoor, denied that was the case.

"We received a couple of offers from Plymouth that were not accepted," Paul told bristolrovers.co.uk

"As far as we are concerned he's a big player for us, and is going to play a huge part in our future, and we don't want him to go anywhere.

"He's said he's happy here but, obviously, there's a part of him that wants to play in the Championship so it's up to us to persuade him that he can go there with us and we are very confident of doing that.

"The Board have assured us that he doesn't have to be sold. Comments have been made that we are trying to build a team for the Championship, and not rip it apart, and with the signings of Darryl Duffy and Jeff Hughes we feel we are building a group of players who can sustain a challenge for the Championship and then play in it when we get there. We certainly don't want Danny to go and we haven't received any fresh bids from Plymouth this week. Whether or not they make another bid is their business, but we want him to stay."

Moving on to the situation regarding his strike force, Paul was pleased withe partnership that appears to be developing between Rickie Lambert and Darryl Duffy and with Andy Williams putting in a confident second half performance, he knows that there will be strong competition for places up front. However, he will keep his options open regarding the possibility of adding another striker to his squad, with a lot depending on the fitness of Wayne Andrews, about to embark on a two week stay at Lilleshall.

"I think there were times in the first half when we went a little bit too long, too early, and there was a little bit of anxiety in our play for some reason. But as the first half went on we started to pass it as we know we can and began to create some openings, which was pleasing.

"When we got the ball up front with a bit of quality, Rickie started to show some nice touches and some good bits and pieces and combined well with Darryl. He took a knock on his side in the opening period, though, and that's why he didn't appear for the second half.

"We had planned to give him a little bit longer but with those two, hopefully, building a partnership and Andy Williams also looking sharp, it gives us options.

"Wayne Andrews is still in his rehabilitation stage, so we will have to assess that, and whether we neeed another striker will be determined over the next week or so and on how some of the fringe players perform."

Paul also revealed that Jeff Hughes, who missed yesterday's match, will be included in the tour party that flies to swden tomorrow.

"Jeff suffered a little bit of stffness in his groin after the game at Weymouth and we don't take any riskes at the moment, so we left him out of the Torquay game. He will be coming to Sweden, and we are confident that he'll be training on Monday."
