Rovers ended the 2007/08 season with a disappointing defeat at the hands of Leyton Orient this afternoon.

The Pirates had looked good for at least a point for much of the game, but some woeful play at the back allowed the home side to score three very soft goals.

Rickie Lambert aimed wide as Rovers started reasonably brightly, before Sean Rigg failed to make contact with a loose ball in the box.

Wayne Gray blasted an effort over the crossbar after a delivery into the box wasn't cleared by the Rovers defence, before the hosts took the lead after just 12 minutes

Gray was played clean through after Byron Anthony failed to deal with a long ball forward, and Steve Phillips was adjudged to have brought down the Orient man as the goal beckoned.

Phillips, who was shown a yellow card for the foul, was unable to keep the ball out as Gray placed the ball low into the bottom right corner of the net.

Stuart Campbell headed wide, and then Rigg's firm effort on goal was deflected wide for a corner.

Rovers were deservedly back on level terms after 30 minutes, as Lambert scored his 19th goal of the season.

Campbell's corner was only cleared back out as far as the midfielder, and a second cross into the box picked out Lambert's diving head, which in turn picked out the back of the net.

Lambert almost made it 2-1 as hit shot on goal was blocked, and Campbell was unlucky as a low effort was saved by the goalkeeper.

Craig Disley was denied at the start of the second half by a fine Glenn Morris stop after David Pipe's ball into the box, before Aaron Lescott appeared to handle on the line at the other end to keep Orient at bay.

Lambert went wide for Rovers, before Aiden Palmer saw his header from a cross in strike the upright before being gathered up by a very relieved Phillips.

Jabo Ibehre forced Phillips into another good save, before Orient edged themselves ahead again with just nine minutes left on the clock.

Adam Boyd showed good skill on the edge of box before firing in a shot on goal that Phillips was unable to keep out, despite appearing to get a glove to the ball.

Orient made absolutely sure of the points in stoppage time after a deflected hopeful high ball into the box was completely missed by Phillips, with Ibehre able to nick in and prod home from close range.

Rovers had looked equal to Orient in the first half, but after the break it was the home side that asked the majority of the questions.

There were elements of all three Orient goals that Rovers could have dealt with better, and it was a disappointing way to end the season.
